About this Hike
Table Mountain hike with beautiful, lush indigenous forest.
Table Mountain hike via Skeleton Gorge is a challenging and a rewarding adventure. Perfect for those who loves hiking steep slopes and scrambling over boulders.
The Table Mountain hike start at Kirstenbosch botanical garden, a journey through lush indigenous forest and stunning natural landscape. As you ascend the gorge you encounter streams cascading down moss-covered rocks (winter months). These water features provide an opportunity to cool off and certainly a good place to take a break to connect with nature.
The trail is approximately 8 km long and includes a series of wooden steps and ladders.
One of many highlights is scrambling up Skeleton gorge which can be slippery therefore challenging to navigate. Good level of fitness and agility is necessary especially with the steep sections. The use of your hands is important, adding therefore an element of excitement to the journey. After reaching the top of the gorge you are rewarded with breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains. Although the second part of the hike leading to Table Mountain summit and iconic Maclear’s Beacon is relatively easy you still need to be focus.
Skeleton Gorge hike takes 4 to 5 hours to complete, consequently depending on your pace and fitness level. It offers a unique perspective on Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks. Without a doubt having a tourist guide is part of safety precautions as well as checking the weather conditions, appropriate clothing, good hydration and snacks. Altogether a must-do for anyone and unforgettable adventure who loves hiking. Come and experience the wonders of Table Mountain National Park on this remarkable journey!

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!
