Table Mountain Hiking & Running Tours EST. 1995
About this Trail Run
Trail running around Lion’s Head and Signal Hill.
The trail run to Signal Hill and around Lion’s Head offers a picturesque adventure in the heart of Cape Town. The trail runs start at the lower Table Mountain parking lot, Kloof Neck parking.
Embark on the ascent of the lower section of Lion’s Head by following the well-marked trail. Â This path meanders through fynbos vegetation and skirts along the slopes of Signal Hill, gradually gaining elevation. As you make your way, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the coastline, Robben Island and the city of Cape Town. After a challenging climb, you reach the upper parking lot of Signal Hill. Pause for a moment while you catch your breath and soak in the panoramic vista. Undeniably an ideal spot for some memorable photos.
From the upper parking lot, the trail descends towards Lion’s Head. Follow the path as it winds its way down, be careful because of the occasionally steep and rocky terrain, rather take your time and be cautious. Once you reach the base of Lion’s Head, you’ll encounter the Lion’s Head Contour path, which will guide you on a scenic journey around the mountain. This trail offers a mix of terrain with occasional wooden steps. Throughout the run, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the white sand beach and the majestic Twelve Apostles Mountain range. After circumnavigating Lion’s Head, you’ll reach where we started at Kloof Neck parking lot.
Lastly, remember to bring essential trail running gear, sunscreen and appropriate clothing. As well as staying hydrated, especially during summer months while mindful of your energy levels. In contrast, the Table Mountain trail run, Lion’s Head, undeniably has a more friendly approach without too much effort. Most importantly, embrace the adventure and savor every step of your trail run.

I had the pleasure to (try) the “Mini” peninsula all day tour. Patrick met me at the lower table car station at Table Mountain to start the tour. I was… read more his only guest, so we had lot’s of time to chat. Being in CT for 30 years and doing mtb for more than 15, Patrick definitely knows the ins and outs and is a very good guide.
The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!
