Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the run like from Table Mountain to Constantia?
Picture this: you start high up on Table Mountain, with Cape Town stretching out behind you, then weave through fynbos-scented slopes before dipping into the cool, green embrace of Constantia’s forests. Along the way, the scenery changes like a movie — one moment it’s rocky mountain views, the next it’s shaded streams and birdsong.
How far are we talking, and how long will it take?
If you keep it direct, you’re looking at around 10 km. Add a few detours (because trust me, you’ll be tempted), and it can stretch closer to 15 km. Time-wise, most runners take between 1.5 and 3 hours — depending, of course, on how many times you stop for photos, snacks, or to say “wow.”
Is it hard?
It’s a mix — some mellow climbs, some flowing downhill, and the occasional “oof, my legs feel that” moment. If you’ve done a bit of trail running before, you’ll love it. If not, just pace yourself and enjoy the views — they’re the perfect excuse for a breather.
What gear should I bring?
Good trail running shoes are a must — those rocks and roots won’t forgive road sneakers. Bring water (at least a litre), a snack or two, and a light jacket. Cape Town weather is a bit like a cat — beautiful, but it can turn on you fast.
Can I run alone?
Technically yes, but it’s way more fun (and safer) with company. Plus, a buddy means you’ll have someone to share snacks with and someone to witness your “mountain conqueror” moment at the finish.
Can I link it with other trails?
Oh, definitely. You can glide right into the Alphen Trail for a chilled, tree-lined finish, or start from Kirstenbosch for a leg-burning warm-up before the main event. Cape Town’s trail network is like a choose-your-own-adventure book — and this route is just one of the best chapters.
When’s the best season to run it?
Spring and autumn are dreamy — mild weather, fewer slippery spots, and flowers showing off. Summer mornings can be gorgeous too, as long as you beat the heat. Winter’s a bit wet, but if you don’t mind a splash of mud, it’s still magical.

The views and impressions, but also the inside informations on the tour were very special and even though I had to realise I would not make it back to the cable car station (I was around 250 / 1500 altitude meters short…), I still loved every meter I rode.
Patrick was kind enough to go on on his self to get his car, after which he fetched me and brought me to my car.
In a nutshell: Patrick is a very nice and fit guy you enjoy being around with that knows the Cape very well. I can recommend booking him–should I be travelling to CT again, I will do so myself!
